It has been narrated by Hadhrat Ayesha (RA) that Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam made this dua:

TRANSLATION: “Oh Allah, You are oft-forgiving, merciful. You love to forgive, so forgive me.”

In some narrations it appears that Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam used to encourage the Sahabah to learn this dua. Hence, special attention has been drawn to its recitation on the night of power. (Lailatul Qadr).
